Patriots Park Master Plan

Attn: This is not a request for bids and the Town reserves the right to negotiate and contract with anyone or no one in the best interests of the Town of Coventry.

1. INTENT AND GENERAL INFORMATION

The Town of Coventry solicits qualifications, along with a proposal, from qualified Multi-Disciplined firms for services related to the development of a master plan, conceptual design, and related cost estimate for the Town’s Patriots Park located at 124 Lake Street in Coventry, CT.

The Town of Coventry is in the process of planning several major improvements to Patriots Park, including replacing and repairing several existing structures. The Town Council directed staff to explore possible uses for the site in order to make the best use of available resources, and develop a plan for future projects.

Patriots Park is a public park located on Lake Wangumbaug (also known as Coventry Lake), a central feature of the Town. Acquired in the 1980’s, it was originally a camp used by the Salvation Army which has been since developed into one of the Town’s main public parks. The property features a beach, a field and several structures and remains a popular spot in the town for residents, out of town visitors, as well as programs run through the Recreation Department. The park also contains the Town’s Senior Center/Community Lodge, which serves Coventry’s senior population through a variety of programs and rental space for private functions. Recently, the Town received notice of an award through the State of Connecticut’s Small Town Economic Assistance Program to repair some existing structures and mitigate persistent problems with waterfowl. The Town has also been notified by the University of Connecticut about its desire to replace a boathouse in the park they currently occupy a portion of with a new and upgraded building for varsity rowing use. The Town is seeking a plan at this time to evaluate these upcoming projects, as well as the future direction of improvements at the site.

All work performed under the contract between the Town of Coventry and the firm shall be under the direction of professional engineers, professional landscape architects and licensed land surveyors licensed by the State of Connecticut.
